Preservation, Promotion and Propagation of the Veerashaiva Way of Life and Philosophy
"Dasoha" is a revered concept rooted in the philosophy of selfless service and compassion, particularly in the context of Veerashaiva tradition. Derived from the Kannada language, "Dasoha" embodies the act of giving generously and willingly, with a focus on serving others without any expectation of personal gain. In the Veerashaiva community, Dasoha extends beyond material offerings to include sharing knowledge, time, and positive energy. It symbolizes a commitment to social welfare, fostering a sense of unity and interconnectedness among individuals. Dasoha reflects the core values of altruism and communal well-being, creating a harmonious environment where the act of giving is considered a noble and spiritually enriching endeavor.
Over the years, the Veerashaiva Samaja of North America (VSNA) community has consistently committed to Dasoha—a practice deeply rooted in selfless service and compassion. The community's dedication is evident through monthly Dasoha services from 2023 to 2021, contributing to the community's welfare and fostering a spirit of generosity. In 2020, the focus extended to supporting charities, filling virtual barrels, and donating toys, emphasizing the community's holistic approach to service. Noteworthy instances include the Dasoha event 2012, where the Northern California Chapter, with local volunteers, hosted an event at a Children's Orphanage in Davanagere, exemplifying the community's global outreach. The youth's active involvement in organizing Dasoha events, such as at the San Jose Family Shelter in 2012 and 2010, showcases a commitment to instilling philanthropic values in the younger generation. These charitable initiatives provide essential resources to those in need and reflect the community's dedication to the timeless principles of Dasoha.

In the spirit of Dasoha, VSNA NCAL conducts a monthly food service to graciously provide nourishing meals for the unhoused. Families are invited to sign up for the Anna Dasoha service, contributing meals featuring pasta, veggies, burritos, rice, and sandwiches, accompanied by water, milk, soda, and fruit juice.
Each participating family is encouraged to prepare meals for 20 people, collectively creating 60 meals monthly. Drop-off occurs on the first Sunday of every month at 11:30 am, with details communicated closer to the date by dedicated VSNA committee members.
This initiative beautifully embraces the essence of Dasoha by involving children in food preparation and packing, fostering a sense of community well-being through selfless giving.
