Entertainment committee report from Naina Pattanshetty:
As a tradition, VNSA NC hosted 2012 Basava Jayanthi event in Livermore temple on May 13, 2012. Basava Jayanthi celebration started off with the “Basavanna Puja” followed by a melodious song from Suma Moogi. Next was “Basavannavara Mahatwada Tunukugalu” skit coordinated by Mangala Shivakumar. For fancy dress competition we had overwhelming participation and all the kids presented their best. Age 5 and below kids represented different state bride and grooms of India. Age 5 to 7 kids presented famous characters most important in our life. Age 7 and above presented historical figures and many more characters. Fancy dress costumes were fabulous; it was evident that parents had put in lot of effort in making fancy dress competition highlight of the day. Then we had vachana competition for kids of all ages. It was noticeable that kids and parents spent many hours to prepare for vachana competition. Thanks to all our VSNA parents for encouraging their kids to participate in these events. It is great to see the confidence and enthusiasm shown by our VSNA kids to learn about our culture and perform on stage. Next was an outstanding performance by renowned vocalist Mrs Usha Prabhu. The combination of her melodious voice and vachanas mesmerized the audience.
Post-lunch session started with few more Vachana competition for kids. Next was vachanarecital by the famous singer — ”Ganapriya” Sri Nachiketa Yakkundi (Sharma). It took us to the times of Basavanna and other Sharanas. Entertainment committee ensured all the parents relaxed and enjoyed pleasant vachana recital while the kids were busy with art competition.
Next was an outstanding dance performance choreographed by Shobhalatha Pattanahshetty. This dance was for four vachanas composed by C.S.Ashwath.
This was followed by Quiz conducted by Vishawanand Pattanashetty. It gave us an opportunity to learn more about many Sharanas/Sharanes and their teachings. Overall, it was a fun filled day with quality programs in-line with Basava Jayanti theme. Programs were well organized by our entertainment committee, educating the younger generation and a realization to one and all that we are part of such a rich heritage and culture. It was great team work from VSNA 2012committee, thanks to all the volunteers who helped us make it successful event, and thanks to all our VSNA members.
